Week 2 – Leadership

The Decision is Made

(well sort of)

So going to publish!  Now the task begins on where to publish.  In reviewing some things, I have come across a couple that may work.

The Distance Learning journal for Educators, Trainers, and Leaders Sponsored by the U.S. Distance Learning Association Fischler School of Education, Nova Southeastern University and Information Age Publishing.  This calls for a 3,000 word manuscript to be submitted which leaves plenty of room for Jennifer Tuttle and I to write and publish together on the different aspects of our projects.  I like their tag line “this future and history of learning”.

Distance Learning is for leaders, practitioners, and decision makers in the fields of distance learning, e’learning, telecommunications, and related areas. It is a professional magazine with applicable information for those involved with providing instruction of all kinds of learners, of all ages, using telecommunications technologies of all types. Stories are written by practitioners for practitioners with the intent of providing usable information and ideas. Articles are accepted from authors with interesting and important information about the effective practice of distance teaching and learning.”

There is no deadline for submission as they publish monthly which gives me plenty of time to work on my section and collaborate with Jennifer to make the paper cohesive and exemplify both our projects together as they worked in tandem.

The  Journal of Digital Learning in Teacher Education ISTE’s Journal of Digital Learning in Teacher Education (formerly the Journal of Computing in Teacher Education, JCTE) provides computer and technology education to preservice and inservice teachers. Produced by experts in the field and peer-reviewed, JDLTE offers a forum to share information about using technology in teacher education among departments, schools, and colleges of education. JDLTE is published quarterly. ~ retrived from the website http://www.iste.org/learn/publications/journals/jdlte.

Unfortunately as I was trying to get submission guidelines, the links did not seem to work for the site, so I will update as they become available.  I have submitted an email to them to see if I can get further information.

If I still want to present…..

As suggest by some classmates and Jennifer Tuttle I looked at the following conference.  Quotes from the FETC website are below:

FETC offers unparalleled opportunities to explore the evolving role of technology to enhance learning and improve performance in schools and districts. FETC brings together a collaborative community of educational leaders and technology experts to exchange techniques and empower participants with strategies for teaching and learning success.”

This seems to be right on target with my Action Research Project.  Having the experience to teach a fully distance classroom was empowering and enlightening.  To be able to have feedback from fellow educators and coaches seems to be right on task.

“FETC invites applications to present from education professionals representing all levels, content areas and specialties, as well as industry and technology experts. If accepted, your presentation will be scheduled as one of the concurrent sessions, BYOD sessions or workshops planned for the 2014 national conference.”

Submission deadline is May 31, 2013.

Yikes!!   Will I have it ready in time to submit?

Conference Date & LOCATION:

January 28 – 31, 2014. Orange County Convention Center – Orlando, FL – EXCELLENT!

In the state of Florida during a lovely time of year and only about 3.5-4 hours from my home.  I could make this work if I needed to, however going to present means I will have to find someone to watch my children, as a single mother this coud be the 2nd hardest challenge to making the submission deadline.

One of the topics they are discussing at the conference is:

“Communication & Collaboration
Presentations that address how educators can manage and utilize technology to communicate with colleagues, parents, students and the broader community. They address the use of technology to create mutually beneficial school-community partnerships using a variety of communication tools including web portals, wikis, websites, email, and electronic notifications.

These presentations also focus on how educators are utilizing technology to incorporate global activities that connect students internationally through project based learning, e-pals, online projects, virtual communication, multi-cultural application development and on-site visits. 

The Program Selection Committee is looking for proposals including, but not limited to the following topics:Social Networking, Digital Literacy, Ethics/Integrity, Collaboration, Global Projects, Creative Commons, Home-School Internet Access, and Community Outreach.”

This is completely in line with my Action Research project and I feel I could create a presentation highlighting my lit review, research and outcomes and deliverables achieved during the Capstone Project.
